Split cane convert

To begin with all my fly fishing was on the small streams.

I had a 7ft 4# carbon that did ok.  It liked the few big pools that you could put out a good length of line on but short roll casts and those neat tucks under the branches, where you just knew that there was a hungry brown quietly waiting for nymphs didn’t happen.

Then I read about split cane

I talked to a few people that used to fish with it and they all said the same thing, Split cane is excellent for small to medium sized rods

I started to use split cane because for the smaller rods it is a better material, it works. It will cast a short line as neatly as it will a long one.

But the thing that really got me, and I still can’t work out why more people don’t talk about it, is how well you feel the fish when its hooked

Compared to split cane carbon is just dead
